Covid-19 ischemic stroke: a narrative review
Some studies have shown that Covid-19 increases the risk of ischemic stroke. Therefore, the present study was performed to review the studies on ischemic stroke associated with Covid-19.
The articles were searched in national and international databases. In the present study, 17 articles were identified and according to the purpose of the study, five studies were reviewed.
Studies have shown that Covid-19 increased risk of acute ischemic stroke. All studies have expressed that in patients with acute ischemic stroke following Covid-19, D-dimer was increased due to the breakdown of fibrin which indicates increased blood coagulation.
There is a risk of stroke in patients with Covid-19. All patients should be monitored for clinical signs of stroke and laboratory parameters, especially inflammatory and coagulation parameters, during and after hospitalization.
