Impulsivity Prediction Model: The Role of Perfectionism Dimensions and Coping Strategies

Impulsivity is considered as a related component of risk factor in military and has particular importance, so risks such as suicide, addiction, substance abuse, and aggression can be prevented by predicting its dimensions. The aim of this study is to predict the impulsivity of the army by using the dimensions of perfectionism and their coping strategy. This research was conducted using descriptive, correlation, and survey methods. The statistical population included all military personnel in three barracks in Shiraz. 145 people were selected as the sample size by cluster and random samplings. The research instruments included Bart's Impulsivity Scale (1997), Hill Perfectionism (2004) and Lazarus and Welkman Coping Strategies (1984) and the data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression. The components of organization and scape or avoidance the effective variables in impulsivity were predictive. Based on the findings of this study, the mean level of attention impulsivity variance of military by organizational variables, focus on mistakes, escape and avoidance, troubleshooting and also 34% of the common variance of motor impulsivity by the variables such as problem solving, escape and avoidance, Perception of pressure, order and organization and finally 49% of the common variance of impulsivity were explained by the variables of organization, perception of pressure, purposefulness, confrontation, scape and avoidance, and acceptance of responsibility. The results showed that some dimensions of perfectionism and coping strategies can be effective in pretending to be impulsive.
