Dry pressure drop analysis in structured pakings by computational fluid dynamics
In The present study, dry pressure drop in structured packing Sulzer BX was calculated and compared with experimental data. The relative error between simulation and experimental data is 7%. The rate of pressure drop at the highest was 16.29 Pascals at a fluid velocity of 1.7 m / s, and at the lowest was 2.31 Pascals at a velocity of 0.37 m / s. Also, comparison has been made between the dry pressure drop of Sulzer BX and Gempak 4A paking, in order to investigate the effect of the corrugation angle. At a speed of 0.76 m / s, Sulzer BX paking with a channel angle of 60 degrees relative to the horizon with a pressure drop of 5.24 Pascals has nearly 16% lower pressure drop than the Gempak4A paking with a 45 degree channel angle.
