The Focal Relationship between the Amount and Type of Cyberspace Use and Students' Health Literacy

Abstract:

T</strong>his study aims to identify the role of the amount and type of cyberspace use on students' health literacy. This research is of applied type in terms of purpose and it is descriptive and correlational in terms of nature and method. The target population included students of Tabriz Azad University amounting 16,000 people. 375 people from the population participated in the present study online through internet access due to corona traffic restrictions. In order to collect the required data, questionnaires on the amount and type of cyberspace use compiled by Fathi and et al. (2021) and health literacy assessment of the urban population of Iran (Hellia, 2014) were used. Data analysis was done using focal correlation test and Pearson in SPSS23 software. Findings demonstrated that there is no relationship between the amount of cyberspace use and the components of understanding and reading health literacy. However, the correlation between cyberspace use and accessibility, evaluation, decision-making, and behavior components was significant at the level of 0.05. That means, the increase in cyberspace use also results in the increases of accessibility, evaluation, decision-making, and behavior components. In addition, according to the statistical focal loads, the health component 0.854 and the accessibility 0.950 had greater portions in the distribution of focal type variables.
