The Functions of the Department of Islamic Education in Spiritual Health Education: a Qualitative Study
Considering the role of the Department of Islamic Education in institutionalizing spirituality, this study is conducted to investigate the functions of the Department of Islamic Education in spiritual health education.
In this study, qualitative content analysis method was used and research information was collected through semi-structured interviews with 6 professors of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences through purposive sampling.
As a result of analyzing the data obtained from the interviews, 96 codes, 32 concepts and 3 categories were extracted. Three categories were identified, including the weaknesses of the education department, the challenges of spirituality education, and solutions.
In order to achieve spirituality in the health system, changes must be made in terms of the content of educational courses in terms of quantity and quality. It is recommended to pay attention to the hidden curriculum in teaching spirituality to students, to use the professors of model specialized courses in the field of spirituality and to synergize the departments of Islamic education and specialized departments in the university.
