A New Reading on Zoroastrian Polytheism in Zoroastrian and Islamic Religious Texts

It seems that the monotheistic worship of Zoroastrians has faced challenges and according to intra-religious and extra-religious documents, there have been manifestations of worship polytheism such as the worship of fire among Zoroastrians.

This article analyzes and examines the issue of Zoroastrian worship polytheism by comparative method and relying on Zoroastrian documents and Islamic religious texts with the aim of explaining and removing the ambiguity of Zoroastrian worship polytheism.

  Findings and results of research on various documents and evidences indicated that among Zoroastrians the worship of celestial bodies and natural elements, especially the worship of fire is fixed at some point in history and the denial of Zoroastrian worship polytheism throughout history is inconsistent with existing evidence. Today, according to Zoroastrian priests, Zoroastrians worship only Ahuramazda, and fire and light are the qibla and the direction of worship.

  The advent of Islam and the familiarity of Zoroastrian elders with monotheism in Islam and the worship and qibla of Muslims, has played an important role in trimming and eliminating the manifestations of Zoroastrian worship.
