Investigating the Possibility of Developing Downstream Steel Industries in Yazd Province

Proper economic policy-making and planning in any country requires recognizing the facilities and production capabilities and economic advantage of different regions of that country. The aim is to recognize the relative advantage of the upstream and downstream sub-sectors of the steel industry of Yazd province during the years 2004-2018 which used the spatial coefficient model. The results showed a value added for the spatial coefficient index, Yazd province had more production expertise in upstream industries than in the whole country and was also an exporter of added value in the desired activity. But the spatial value added index of the province in the downstream industries for the entire period, was less than one. According to the results, Yazd province has less production expertise in the activity in question than the whole country and is an importer of added value in this sector. Yazd province has been a supplier of steel raw materials for many years, due to lack of comprehensiveness of development projects from mining to high value-added final product, has always had the least benefit from the value added of this sector and A significant number of industrial and construction projects in the province, the required steel structures are supplied from outside the province. Provincial planners should decide on investment, resource allocation and budgeting according to the province's advantage in order to increase the province's value-added growth in the downstream part of the steel industry.
