Salma dam project and neutralization of Iran's geopolitical and hydropolitical capacities
The limitation of fresh water resources in the world and the increasing consumption have caused water to be drawn in the competition of countries, and water plays an essential role in shaping socio-political relations between social groups. The increasing need for water, changing patterns of consumption, pollution, the loss of natural resources and the development of deserts have led mankind to the global water crisis; So that some believe that future wars, civil and social violence will mainly result from the lack of water and food resources. Iran is one of the dry and semi-arid countries of the world in the Middle East region, among the countries facing water crisis. This issue is considered one of the main factors limiting the country's development in the coming decades. The data required for this article has been collected using descriptive-analytical method, library and internet sources and seeks to answer the question, what will the Selma dam project and the neutralization of Iran's geopolitical and hydropolitical capacity be like? The results of the research show that due to the trend of population increase and excessive use of surface water, underground water, agriculture and climate change are the most important limiting factors of water in the Harirood basin and the continuation of this trend can lead to hydropolitical tension between Afghanistan and Iran.
