The effects of urban smart growth on social sustainable development in the 12th District of Tehran

Abstract:
Introduction

smart growth is an approach to sustainable urban development that addresses issues and problems resulting from the widespread urban sprawl of metropolitan areas. This approach reinforces social equality and environmental justice with micro- and macro-level policies, as well as discussing aspects of sustainability.

Data and Method

The research method is analytical in terms of descriptive type and practical. The data collection method is a library and field. The statistical population of the population lives in the 12th district of the metropolitan area of Tehran (241475 people), which was determined to be 400 people. Research variables have included intelligent urban growth in 10 components and sustainable social development in 8 components. Used for data analysis from the indicators of center orientation (mean) and scattering (standard deviation and scattering coefficient) and structural equation modeling from the partial least squares (PLS) approach.

Results

The results of descriptive statistics through the indicators of tendency to the center and dispersion showed that the score of the variable intelligent urban growth is in the range of 2.51 to 3.5, which is somewhat desirable. Also, the variable score of sustainable social development along with all its components based on the 5-level spectrum is in the range of 2.51 to 3.5, which is somewhat desirable. Also, the results in the effect of dependent independent variables concerning structural equation modeling showed that the effect of smart urban growth on sustainable social development at the level of significance coefficient of 1.005 and the level of significance level of 0.315 is not significant.

Conclusion

Therefore, in order to achieve sustainable social development in District 12 of Tehran, the smart growth strategy should be considered as the main strategy in sustainable urban planning.
