Challenges and obstacles to the comprehensive election bill

The realization of the principles governing and overseeing free and fair elections has always been a serious concern of human rights documents and treaties in such a way that the absence of these principles will seriously damage the holding of elections in any country. In the Islamic Republic of Iran, after dozens of elections were held and numerous weaknesses and deficiencies emerged, including the scattering of electoral laws and regulations, efforts to formulate a comprehensive law in the field of elections attracted the attention of the executive agents of the country, and in this regard, in the year 2017 and after many struggles, the comprehensive election bill was finally submitted to the Islamic Council for approval by the then government. The important and fundamental question of the current research is what are the most important challenges and obstacles to the comprehensive election bill? The present research aims to examine the most important challenges and obstacles to the comprehensive election bill in the light of some principles of free and fair elections within the framework of the descriptive-analytical method. . The findings and results of the current research show that the current comprehensive election bill is far from the full realization of the principles and foundations of free and fair elections.
