The Role of Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation Skills and Perception of the Family's Emotional Environment in Predicting Cyber bullying among Middle School Students in Tabriz
The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of mindfulness, emotion regulation skills and perception of the family's emotional environment in predicting cyber bullying.
The present research method is descriptive-correlation type and the research sample was 304 female students of the second secondary school in public schools of Tabriz city, who were selected by multi-stage cluster random sampling method. The tools used in this research are the cyber bullying questionnaire of Antoniodo et al. the mindfulness of Ryan and Brown, the emotional regulation skill questionnaire of Gross and John and the questionnaire parenting styles based on the work of Schiffer. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis.
Data analysis using Pearson's correlation coefficient showed that the relationship between mindfulness and evaluation of emotion regulation skills and cyberbullying is negative and significant (P<0.05). The relationship between the emotional suppression dimension of emotion regulation skills and the affection dimension of perception of the emotional environment of the family and cyberbullying is positive and significant (P<0.05). Based on the results of regression analysis, mindfulness, emotion regulation skills and perception of the family's emotional environment are able to predict cyberbullying and explain its occurrence in certain circumstances (P<0.05).
Psychologists and educational counselors should provide counseling in the field of improving mindfulness, teaching emotion regulation skills, and providing counseling to parents in order to prevent cyber bullying in students.
