The pathology of information technology system and its development as an infrastructure of knowledge management

Our age is known as the era of information or knowledge. Information technology, as a new perspective and strategy, has affected all aspects of our lives. Organizations are also heavily affected by information technology, in a way that nowadays it is impossible to imagine an organization without information technology and its application. Information technology and communication is a universal tool that has various applications in different organizations, ranging from simple automation and information sharing to advanced research and development processes such as managing knowledge. Apllication of information technology and its tools can be a basis for knowledge management and plays a key role in developing knowledge management processes and can be influential in collecting and transferring the knowledge and data.If an organization makes use of a knowledge management system, because of some likely problems on the way of its application, appropriate use of this system and managing the knowledge of experienced employees might face certain difficulties. Therefore, identification of the challenges in front of information technology system (as a basis for realization of knowledge management in a public organization or private company) and offering a suitable model for development and expansion of this system to all of the organizational sections, is very important. This descriptive study aims at identifying probable vulnerabilities in the fields of information technology and knowledge management with the help of experts’ opinions and field study of a substantive company. Afterwards, with descriptive and inductive statistical methods, influential challenges in the aspects of software, hardware, communication networks, security, and human resource are specified and 10 of the main vulnerabilities in each aspect are presented.
