Social analysis of the role of media in the place of gender in sports(Case study: Tokyo 2020 Olympic sports news in Iran Sports newspaper)
The purpose of writing this article is the social analysis of the role of the media and the position of gender in sports in the media coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This research was conducted using qualitative research method and thematic analysis strategy. The statistical population is all the contents of Iran Sports newspaper in 1400. Statistical sampling was purposefully selected, which includes 89 textual data (news, reports, interviews, and articles) in the Iran Sports newspaper. In the present research, the textual data of Iran Sports newspaper were categorized in three levels of basic themes, organizing themes, and overarching themes in the coding process. These three levels were shown along with the relationships between them. The comparison of the results obtained from the analysis of the content of the Iran Sports newspaper during the Olympic period shows that the approach of this newspaper was based on the concepts of "hegemony", "sports metaphors" and "super-reality", but the noteworthy point is the concept of "hegemony". that the news coverage in this theme has been done for both sexes, with the difference that the news support for women is more about the announcement of infrastructural restrictions for training before being sent to competitions or the lack of facilities or equipment for athletes during competitions and... While the news coverage for male athletes includes allocating special points and encouraging them for their efforts in the field of competition with their opponents, even when they did not achieve the desired result
