Comparison of Parenting Style of Parents of Children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Normal Children
The purpose of this research was to investigate the parenting style of parents of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and normal children. The method of this research is of the basic research type and the method of its implementation is descriptive of the post-event type. The statistical population consisted of all the parents of children aged 6 to 12 with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder who had referred to the Akhwan Medical Center in Tehran in 1391-1392 and all the parents of normal students who attended elementary schools in the academic year of 1391-1392. Girls and boys of district 6 of Tehran were studying. The sample number was 99 people, 60 of them were parents of normal children and 39 of them were parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. All counts were used for the clinical group. Research data was collected by parents using personal information questionnaire, Alabama parenting style. In order to analyze the data, independent sample t statistical methods were used. The results showed that the parenting style of corporal punishment and lack of supervision and care in the parents of normal children is less than the parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and also, the parenting style of other disciplinary methods and participation in the parents of normal children is more than the parents of children with ADHD. Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. However, there is no significant difference between the two groups of parents in terms of the amount of positive parenting and inconsistent discipline.
