Identifying Effective Teaching Behaviors from Students' Point of View: A Critical Incident Technique

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify the behavioral components related to effective teaching from the students' point of view. For this purpose, critical incident technique has been used as a research method. The location of the research was Tehran and the participants of the research included 50 students of educational sciences of Tehran state universities who were selected through purposeful sampling and random sampling method. Based on the analysis of research findings, 7 main behavioral components of effective teaching were identified, which included choosing a teaching and training strategy, job discipline, fairness and justice, communication and interaction with students, preparation and having a lesson plan, dedication Time to students outside the classroom and classroom management and control. Finally, it is recommended that paying attention to these behavioral components and using them in the development and improvement of teachers' competencies, evaluation of teaching effectiveness, recruitment and hiring of uuniversity professors will be a way forward.
