Abstract:

Media, by creating changes in values, beliefs and attitudes, perceptions and images and mindsets of society, provide the ground for persuasion and acceptance and play an important role in all political, economic, social and cultural spheres of the country. The present study was conducted with the aim of identifying contingency factors affecting media management. The research is a descriptive and analytical study and has been investigated using documents, books and related internal and external researches. The findings of the study showed that different approaches such as systemic approach, public management approach, management based on ownership and strategic management approach have been presented and implemented for media management, each of which has different limitations and indicates their incorrect and limited understanding of the subject of media management. Limiting media management to media relations and reducing its level to public relations and even lower to advertising management. One of these limitations is the lack of attention to the conditions and frequent changes in the media. Therefore, in this study, the contingency approach was also stated as one of the specific approaches of strategic management, which, considering the characteristics of the media and also the extensive changes in the structure and system of message transmission in the media, is a necessary and important approach in the field of media management. And based on that, it is necessary for media management to have comprehensive and complete plans for different conditions and sudden and rapid changes in the field of media and even political and social conditions. To achieve a contingency approach in the media, contingency factors affecting media management must be identified. The findings showed that these contingency factors can be divided into two categories: organizational and extra-organizational. Also, the results showed that the strategies and strategies of the organization, changing the expectations of employees, advancing information technology or changing technology and the high volume of work are the most important contingency conditions of media management. Also, changing government and tax regulations, public interest in the media and increasing social awareness are the most important extra-organizational factors with a contingency approach.
