Factors Affecting the Challenges of Parents and Adolescents with ADHD: a Qualitative Study
The aim of the present study was to identify the factorsaffecting the challenges of parents and adolescents withADHD. The present research method was qualitative andthematic analysis with grand theory approach and semistructured interview as a data collection tool. The researchmethod is qualitative. In order to explain the concept of thechallenges of parents and teenagers and the factors affectingit, a qualitative method with a grand-theory approach wasused. In this research, in the qualitative part using thepurposeful sampling method, 15 parents with ADHD childrenin Tehran in 1401 who experienced conflict with the ADHDchild were selected as participants in the research. The samplesize was estimated based on reaching the data saturationcriterion. Factors affecting the challenges of parents andadolescents with ADHD 7 main themes and 16 subcategoriesrelated to each include; psychological consequences (suddenand impulsive behaviors, violent behaviors, sensorydisturbances, negligence in performing duties); Psychologicalapproach (increasing self-confidence, strengthening andencouraging, playing and physical activity, emotionalconnection); educational approach (approach to medicalcenters, appropriate training); family factors (geneticproblems, family problems); economic factors (economicsituation); social factors (lack of social support);environmental factors (living conditions, parents' problems).In general, the challenges of parents and teenagers are affectedby many factors such as the person, the environment, andeducation.
