Predicting high-risk driving behaviors based on demographic characteristics and impulsivity of offending drivers
considering the risk of driving and the resulting injuries, it is possible to point out the relationship between human characteristics and driving behaviors; Therefore, the goal of this research was to predict high-risk behaviors in traffic violations based on demographic characteristics and impulsivity of the offending drivers.
study was a cross-sectional study and a descriptive. The statistical population consisted of all accident-causing drivers aged 20 to 65 living in Tehran, of which 353 were selected and included in the study by purposeful sampling. For this purpose, the data were analyzed by using SPS-26 software after collecting the impulsivity questionnaire of Barratt (1994) and the risky driving behavior of Manchester (Risen et al., 1990(.
According to the results variables had a significant effect on high-risk behaviors. Among the background variables, the effect of marital status, education, driving experience and age on high-risk behaviors was confirmed (p<0.05).The direction of the effect of age and education on high-risk behaviors was negative, but the effect of driving experience was positive. Also, single people had more risky behaviors than married. Finally the effect of all three components of impulsivity on high-risk behaviors was confirmed (p<0.05).
Considering the results, it is possible to prevent a part of road accidents by improving the health of drivers. Considering the importance and sensitivity of driving in the event of road accidents, it seems necessary to carry out more comprehensive evaluations among drivers before receiving a license and after that periodically.
