Evaluation of the attitude of students toward the English language (A Case Study Islamic Azad University Student in the West of Mazandaran)

Importance of the English language is one of evaluative indices of measurement of academic achievement in the modern world. Despite much effort made by parents, educators and authorities in Iranian society, the introductory evaluations indicate a regretful fruitlessness of efforts and investments in improving the quality of learning English as a foreign language, for one part of which the learners themselves and for the other part of which the environmental factors are to be blamed. The present article attempts to address these two points. The results of this study confirm the influence of attitudinal factors on learning. The objectives of this study include: measurement of the attitudes of students of humanities towards English, measurement of benefit expectation from English, benefit evaluation from English, examination of factors influencing the learning of English, measurement of other people’s expectations from learning English and their effect on the attitudes of students, examining the correlation between attitude towards the English language and end-ofthe- term achievement, and measurement of the amount of attitude in different branches of Azad University.
