Effect of polyacrylamid polymer and IBA on the rooting of winter magnolia semi hardwood cutting

Abstract:

In order to study the effect of IBA hormone and super observant (polyacrylamid) treatments on the rooting percentage of magnolia cv. Violet (Winter magnolia), an experiment was conducted in split- plot, based on RCD design with three replication, in green house of horticulture department, university college of agriculture and natural resources, university of Tehran. In this study, effect of tow factors, including tow levels of IBA hormone (0 and 3000 ppm) and four levels of super observant polymer (0, 0.4, 0.6 & 0.8 percentage) were considered. Semi woody cuttings of magnolia were potted in prepared medium after treatment with IBA. After that, pots containing treated cuttings were transferred the intermitted mist condition. Results showed that the percentage of rooting was significantly affected by IBA treatment but super absorbent had not significant effect. The results of this experiment indicated that maximum rooting percentage 26-66 by the IBA treatment, especially at 3000 ppm in combination with 0.8 % absorbent polymer treatment.
