Eugenics and improving the human race is a challenging issues in moral philosophy, reminding us of Hitler''''s immoral and racist policies and the forced sterilization of old eugenics practices. Todaygenetic interventions are not done in old compulsory way due to genetic advancement, and parents are more likely to be free to choose their child''''s type and characteristics. Some people have appealed to the foundations of genetic engineering and the consolidation of individualist values in liberal societies to claim that a great portion of ethical issues concerning old eugenics has been resolved, especially in the area of freedom, and today there is a liberal eugenics which does not suffer from the moral problems of old eugenics. In contrast, some people rely on examples such as the contradiction between the principle of parental freedom with community-based moral norms and its contradiction with the children liberty to suggest that liberal eugenics continues to face challenges, limiting the freedom of parenting and this must be morally considered. This article attempts to analyze some of the challenges of adapting the principle of liberty to liberal eugenics and propose solutions to ensure that this ethical principle is applied to liberal eugenics.

The Humean theory of motivation is remarkably attractive in virtue of its ability to explain intentional actions. The theory accounts for an agent’s intentional actions in terms of a previous desire of hers and a belief concerning how to fulfil the desire. The Humean theory of motivation can be formulated as follows: an agent, A, is motivated to do an action Φ only if, and only because, A has a previous desire for Ψ and a belief that by doing Φ the previous desire for Ψ will be satisfied. According to this formulation, having a desire-belief pair as characterized above is not only a necessary condition, but also a cause, of being motivated. The argument from direction of fit is an important argument for the Humean theory of motivation. On this argument, the fundamental distinguishing feature of beliefs and desires is their directions of fit; that is, if there is a mismatch between the world and a belief, then the belief should change in order to match the world, while if there is a mismatch between the world and a desire, then it is the world that should change in order to match the desire. The paper seeks to provide Michael Smith’s version of the argument from direction of fit in favor of the Humean theory, explicating the worries and objections to it.

Actions are not ethically equal, and it is particularly important to understand priorities among them in cases such as moral dilemmas . To find such priorities, it is helpful to consult religious statements in which “origins, ” “keys, ” “peaks, ” and “heads” of superior values are introduced . When we examine their instances, however, we face the question of how to reconcile these apparently inconsistent statements . To answer the question, we have deployed the descriptive-analytic.

Ethics of complexity consists of a set of theories based on a complexity worldview, considering the relation of this worldview with, and its effect on, morality. The theories were propounded after objections to the effect of a simplicity worldview on traditional widespread moral theories, encompassing all various views offering preparations for encountering moral issues and situations. Despite their shared concepts, these views have differences too, and in each of these, one might find noteworthy or overlooked aspects necessitating a revision and development of the ethics of complexity. Thus, in this paper, we introduce ethics of complexity through a presentation of extant theories in this field, trying to reformulate and elaborate upon ethics of complexity. The elaboration is aided by shared and reliable concepts in the extant theories through a content composition in light of meta-languages of morality and complexity. It has two levels: the first level includes complex thought and self-criticizing rationality in the grand field of complexity, and is indeed a bedrock and requisite of the second level which constitutes ethics of complexity. The second level consists in a set of preparations, including three principles: “correlate existence,” “temporary command,” and “planetary benevolence” having cooperative and complimentary relations with one another. The moral agent is expected to gain a more extensive moral insight by considering these three principles and be able to act better in her moral decisions and actions.

As two independent and yet very close and homogeneous sciences, ethics and jurisprudence (fiqh) have the capacity and possibility of a mutual impact. The realization of these impacts can greatly help the promotion, dynamics, and harmony of jurisprudential and moral rulings. Drawing on an analytic method and studies in intellectual history, this paper considers the impacts of ethics on inference of jurisprudential rulings in Ghazālī’s view. The paper aims to analyze, explicate, and consider Ghazālī’s proposal about the impacts. The style of inference resulting from these impacts is called “inner inference.” In this paper, we explain that ethics can transform inferential conceptions and judgements via a change of the humanist foundations of jurisprudential inference and a presentation of a virtue approach to such inferences. As a result of thee transformations, jurisprudential concepts will expand, and in some cases, their meanings will change. Moreover, as to the inference of jurisprudential rulings, their disadvantages and impacts on the human psyche will be taken into account, culminating in jurisprudential rulings which are compatible with other sciences such as ethics, have vertical orders, and have conditions and constraints approximating their rulings to their philosophy..

In answer to the question “can we consistently see God as the origin of moral duties” Richard Swinburne believes that the divine commands have something to do with moral problems. Since God is gives us the greatest blessing, if God asks us to do something, it will be our duty to comply with it. However, it is obvious that God cannot make something our duty when it is not our duty in fact. As to the problem of God’s power and morality, Swinburne draws a distinction between necessary and contingent moral judgements, maintaining that God cannot change necessary judgements even if he wants to. As to contingent moral judgments, however, in virtue of his absolute power for creating any contingent world, God can select one world in which the contingent moral judgments are different from those in other worlds. Our objection is that, on the one hand, Swinburne’s claim cannot provide a good answer to the question of what the relation is between God’s absolute power and contingent moral judgments because his position can resolve the contradiction resulting from the requirements of the necessary moral judgments, while in solving the contradictions arising from the contingent moral judgments, he faces questions which render his argument incomplete. On the other hand, his argument for the requirement of complying with God’s commands because he bestows his favors and blessings upon us is implausible. At best, he can just claim that praising someone who bestows blessings upon us can provide a motivation for complying with God’s commands and, in the most developed version, we can say that it provides a motivation for complying with moral obligations.
