The Effect of Help Seeking Strategy Training on Mathematical Problem Solving

Message:
Abstract:
Aim
Aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of help seeking strategy on math problem solving performance. Research method was quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest design with control group. Research participants included 100 (54 Femal & 46 male) second grade high school students in the City of Ahar in the academic year 2011-12 who were selected using multi-stage random cluster sampling and were randomly placed in experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group received help seeking strategy trainings for 12 sessions. At the same time, the control group continued their regular classroom programs. Results of covariance analysis showed that scores of the experimental group students in mathematical problem solving posttest were higher than the control group. This research has implications for math teachers who can use these strategies for math achievement.
