Correlation of Time Use with Health-Related Quality of Life in Dormitory Students

Abstract:
Introduction
The amount of time allocated to each day activities among students can have an effective role in their health and quality of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of time Use with health-related quality of life in dormitory students of Hamedan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods
In this descriptive-correlational study, 178 dormitory girl students from Hamedan University of Medical Sciences were selected by convenience sampling method. The participants the “Time-Use Diary”, whose validity was confirmed by the teaching staff of the occupational therapy group, and reliability was measured using Cronbach's alpha, and the "Short form of the Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire Form (SF-36)), whose validity and reliability were confirmed in previous studies, for a normal day and one day off completed. Data were analyzed in SPSS. 16.
Results
There is significant correlation activities of daily living and physical health problems, (P = 0.030), social function (P = 0.009), energy / fatigue (P = 0.015) and emotional well-being (P = 0.002). Also, there is a significant correlation between instrumental activities of daily living and physical health problems (P = 0.035). In addition, there is a significant correlation between education with pain domains (P = 0.038) and energy / fatigue (P = 0/050). There is a significant correlation between leisure time and general health (P = 0.043) and emotional well-being (P = 0.005), and also between sleep and rest and the emotional well-being domain (P = 0.004).
Conclusions
There is no time allocation between different areas of daily work in students. This can have a negative impact on some aspects of the health and quality of life of these people. Therefore, it is suggested that by educating the students, it is possible to increase the work-related areas and the quality of life associated with the health of students.
