    This work aimed to prepare pH-sensitive nanofibrous mats as a drug releasing system using a green method. Gelatin nanofibers were first prepared by electrospinning and then cross-linked with glutaraldehyde. To evaluate the capability of this product as a drug delivery system, vancomycin was loaded into the nanofibrous mats in different doses as a model antibiotic drug. The chemical structure of the prepared material was investigated by (Fourier transform-infrared) FT-IR. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) observations showed that uniform bead-free nanofibers with an average diameter of 157 nm were successfully fabricated. The drug release studies revealed that the relative rate of drug release in buffer media with pH =2.0 was higher than that in a buffer solution with pH =7.4. The drug release mechanism of samples was determined by Korsmir-Pepas model. Moreover, the incorporation of vancomycin into the nanofibers provided an effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus microorganisms. The developed antibiotic loaded nanofibrous mats can be considered as a promising novel antimicrobial wound dressing material.

    Background

    Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) have always been considered as the vector/s of viral and parasitic diseases. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive survey on the species composition, spatial distribution, and biodiversity indices of mosquitoes in Kurdistan Province, western Iran.

    Methods

    This study was carried out in 10 counties of Kurdistan Province. The immature stages of mosquitoes were collected monthly from June to September. ArcGIS software was used to spatial analysis and create maps. Alpha diversity indices were calculated using the related formula.

    Results

    Totally, 5831 larvae belonging to the family Culicidae were collected. Twelve species were identified including: Anopheles claviger, An. maculipennis s.l, An. superpictus s.l, Culiseta. longiareolata, Cs. subochrea, Culex hortensis, Cx. mimeticus, Cx. perexiguus, Cx. pipiens, Cx. theileri, Cx. modestus and Cx. territans. Based on this analysis, the high-risk areas of the province are determined as Anopheles in the west, Culex in the north, and the Culiseta in the south of the province. Analyzing the Alpha biodiversity indices showed Baneh and Sarabad had the maximum and Bijar had the minimum mosquito biodiversity.

    Conclusion

    The western counties of the province are regarded as the hotspots for anopheline mosquitos. Moreover, reporting of malaria cases in the past, bordering with Iraq and the high traffic of travelers have made these areas as potential foci for malaria transmission. So that, routine entomological inspections are proposed to detect any suspicious vector or case entrance.

    Background

     There is great controversy regarding the effect of MBT and Damon bracket systems on dental arch dimensions and incisor position.

    Objectives

     We aimed to study the effects of two different brackets (MBT and Damon) on dental arch dimensions and incisors position after orthodontic treatment.

    Methods

     In this retrospective study, the records of 20 patients who underwent orthodontic treatment with MBT or Damon bracket systems were studied. All patients had class I skeletal and dental malocclusion and were treated without extraction. The patients were treated either with Damon or MBT bracket systems (n = 10). Lateral cephalograms were traced using the Dolphin software to determine the position of incisors. In addition, transverse dimensions of dental arches were measured on occlusal photographs. Fishers’ exact test, independent-test, Man-Whitney, paired t-test, and Wilcoxon were used for statistical analysis. P < 0.05 was set as significant.

    Results

     There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding age, sex, and initial values of the variables studied. U1-Apog (mm), upper inter-canine, lower inter-second premolar distance showed a significant difference before and after treatment in the Damon system. However, no significant difference was observed between initial and post-treatment values in the MBT group. L1-Apog (°), IMPA (°), maxillary inter-first and second premolars, inter-canine, and mandibular inter-canine distance was higher in the Damon system after treatment compared to MBT. Changes of the upper and lower transverse dimensions of the dental arches and the incisor positional did not reveal a notable difference in the Damon and MBT systems (P > 0.05).

    Conclusions

     There was no significant difference regarding changes in dental arches and incisor positions between the Damon and MBT systems.

    مقدمه

    آلودگی به شپش به عنوان یک مسئله اجتماعی از جمله معضلات بهداشتی شایع در دانش آموزان است. لذا این مطالعه با هدف تعیین تاثیر آموزش براساس مدل اعتقاد بهداشتی بر رفتارهای پیشگیرانه از آلودگی به شپش سر در دانش آموزان انجام شد.

    روش کار

    این پژوهش یک مطالعه مداخله ای از نوع نیمه تجربی بود. جامعه مورد بررسی 138 نفر از دانش آموزان (69 نفر در هر یک از دو گروه مداخله و کنترل) دختر پایه ششم مقطع متوسطه اول شهر مریوان در سال 1396 بودند که به روش نمونه گیری خوشه ای دو مرحله ای انتخاب شدند. مداخله آموزشی در 5 جلسه، ارائه شد. ابزار گردآوری اطلاعات، پرسشنامه مشخصات جمعیتی و زمینه ای و پرسشنامه محقق ساخته مبتنی بر سازه های مدل اعتقاد بهداشتی و آگاهی و رفتار پیشگیرانه از پدیکولوزیس بود که در دو مرحله قبل و دو ماه پس از مداخله تکمیل شد. داده های گردآوری شده با استفاده از نرم افزار SPSS نسخه 16 و آزمون های متناسب تحلیل شدند.

    یافته ها

    قبل از مداخله، بین متغیرهای جمعیتی و زمینه ای در بین دو گروه تفاوت معنادار وجود نداشت (05/0P>). دو ماه بعد از مداخله در میانگین نمرات متغیر آگاهی و سازه های حساسیت و موانع درک شده در گروه مداخله تفاوت معنادار مشاهده گردید (05/0P<)، اما در سازه های دیگر مدل اعتقاد بهداشتی و همچنین رفتار، قبل و بعد از مداخله، تفاوت معنادار یافت نشد (05/0P>).

    نتیجه گیری

    علیرغم افزایش معنادار آگاهی و سازه های حساسیت و موانع درک شده، مداخله آموزشی بر اتخاذ رفتارهای پیشگیرانه از پدیکلوزیس تاثیر معنادار نداشت.

    Background and Objectives

    Lice infection as a social issue is one of the common health problems among students. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of education based on Health Belief Model (HBM) on preventive behaviors of head lice infestation in students.

    Materials and Methods

    This was a semi-experimental interventional study. The study population consisted of 138 students (69 in each intervention and control group) in the sixth grade of primary school in Marivan city in 2017, that were selected by two-stage cluster sampling. Educational intervention was presented at 5 sessions. The data gathering tool was a demographic and Background questionnaire and a researcher-made questionnaire based on HBM and knowledge and Preventive behavior of Pediculosis, which completed in two stages before and two months after the intervention. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16 and proportional tests.

    Results

    There was no significant difference between demographic and Background variables between the two groups before intervention (P>0.05). Two months after the intervention, there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the knowledge and the perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers in the intervention group (P<0.05), but in other constructs of the HBM, as well as behavior, were not significantly different, before and after the intervention (P>0.05).

    Conclusion

    Despite the significant increase in knowledge and Perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers structures, the educational intervention did not have a significant effect on the adoption of preventive behaviors of head lice infestation.

    As the root canal system shows different and complicated anatomies, mechanical instrumentation alone has not the ability to provide a bacteria-free environment in root canals. On the other aspect, necrotic tissue remaining can decrease the effects of root canal irrigants and medicaments and also interfere with the adaptation of root canal fillings to dentin. As a result, certain disinfection and irrigation procedures are required to remove the remaining tissues from the root canal area thoroughly and also be able to eliminate the microorganisms. Triple antibiotic paste (TAP) containing metronidazole, ciprofloxacin and minocycline has been proposed as a root canal medicament due to its antimicrobial effects in endodontic regenerative procedures. The purposes of this review were to determine the properties of TAP drugs and to evaluate the efficiency of TAP on the root canal disinfection, in primary and permanent teeth, along with its affection in regeneration/revascularization procedures. The biocompatibility and disadvantages of this medicament were also discussed.

    Background
    The aim of this study was to obtain new data which would be valuable to develop programs for future planning of mosquito controls in in western Iran.
    Methods
    Larvae and adult collections were carried out from different habitats using standard dipping and animal baited trap methods during May, June and July 2012 in two provinces (Kurdistan and Kermanshah) in the west of Iran. Characteristics of breeding places were studied based on the habitat type (River edge, Ground pool), water con­ditions (clear or turbid, stagnant or running), vegetation (With or without vegetation), water temperature, sunlight exposure (full or partial sunlight) and so on.
    Results
    Overall, 4081 third- and fourth-instars larvae and 2013 Adult were collected. Five genera and eleven spe­cies of the family Culicidae were identified. Mosquitoes collected in larval and adult stages including, Anopheles maculipennis s.l. (4.1%, 4.42%), An. superpictus (1.35%,1.39%), An. turkhudi (1.75%,1.68%), Aedes vexans (2.5%, 8.78%), Culex hortensis (1.59%, 1.04%), Cx. mimeticus (5%, 2.38%), Cx. pipiens (16.5%, 8.15%), Cx. theileri (10%, 46.4%), Culiseta longiareolata (24%, 4.27%), and Cs. subochrea (24%, 4.27%) and Ochlerotatus caspius s.l. (9.1%, 21.46%). Culiseta longiareolata and Cs. subochrea found predominant species in larval collection, whereas Culex theileri was dominant in Adult collection. Anopheles turkhudi is reported for the first time in Kermanshah Province.
    Conclusion
    Due to the geographical location of the two provinces, extensively studies with emphasis on mosquito ecology, to having comprehensive and up to date information is essential.
