An Analysis of the Antibacterialand Antioxidant Effects of Some Iranian Weed Flora

Given the importance of plant sasuseful sources for extracting newanti-bacterial andantioxidant compounds, thisstudy explored eight different plants species for antioxidantand antimicrobial properties. The methanol extract of the aerial parts of the samples was prepared by means of the maceration method. Afterwards, the antibacterial effects of the obtained extracts were analyzed by determining minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations in the liquid cultivation environment. DPPH inhibition assay was appliedtoevaluate theantioxidant effect of the samples.The results indicated that Artemisiahas the bestantibacterial and Nepetacrassifolia (with IC50 = µg/ml 3.6) hasthe best antioxidant effect.
