Land Use Planning to Improve Urban Resilience from Natural Disasters

Identification and description of long-term damages of natural disasters reduce the possibility and amount of destructions. Nowadays many cities are exposed to natural disasters; therefore¡ consideration of these issues in urban planning has important effect on increasing the urban resilience. The present study has used previous studies and available world literature to explore the concept of resilience from the point of view of various experts and the features of an urban resilience. Afterwards¡ it examines the importance of land use planning in making cities resilient. Then qualitative analysis of results and indicators obtained from previous expert''s researches about the case¡ criteria and indicators in land use planning in order to enhance cities resilience. Finally solution and strategies are presented. The results show that proper land use planning such as regulations of land subdivision¡ determining land uses according to the specifications of tectonic area¡ preventing construction in the vicinity of the fault can reduce the intensity of structural damages and victims in the event of a crisis. Land use planning and changing land use¡ if necessary¡ observing with consideration of buffer zones¡ integration of parcels and etc has essential role in prevention of dangers of natural crises.
