Study of Utility of Emotional Intelligence in Educational -Career Construction of First Grade High School Students

Educational- career construction as construct composed of two dimensions of career adaptability and vocational development can play effective role in first grade high school students’ career decision making readiness. In order to determine utility of emotional intelligence in educational- career construction assessment, relationship between emotional intelligence and dimensions of educational-career construction and incremental validity of emotional intelligence in predicting vocational development was examined by selecting random convenience sample of 514 first grade high school students (240 boys, 274 girls). The Pearson's correlations showed considerable positive relations between components and dimensions of emotional intelligence and dimensions of educational-career construction.The Canonical correlation showed 5 canonical variates in relationship between emotional intelligence and dimensions of educational- career construction. The Hierarchical regression showed that emotional intelligence can predict vocational development beyond demographics and career adaptability (ΔR2=0.07, P<0.001) .This study added supports of utility of emotional intelligence in educational-career construction counseling.
