The Roles of Commanders and Chiefs in Crime Prevention with an Emphasis on the Crime of Bribery

This article is meant to identify the roles of commanders and chiefs in preventing the crime of bribery. The research methodology comprises description and field study. Once the questionnaire was designed through asking for the opinions of the experts and practitioners, 197 personnel were selected from among the staff working at Greater Tehran Police Command as the statistical population via the random sampling method. The results suggest on the basis of the respondents' views that the important roles of the commanders and chiefs in preventing the crime of bribery includes intelligence-security, socio-cultural, and disciplinary-service, played in terms of reducing crime, preventing recidivism, reducing opportunities for committing and preventing risky, problem personnel's bribery. In reducing the ground for committing crime, preventing being in company of indecent people with the average rank 29.18; raising the level of salary and perks of the personnel vis-à-vis other governmental organizations with an average rank of 12.73; preventing recidivism, making efforts to eliminate workplace pollution and the atmosphere polluted with bribery with the rank 31.47; striving to remove the dominant culture of dealing in illegitimate affairs with an average rank of 23.61; reducing the opportunities for committing bribery with the average rank 34.57; and preventing engaging in false jobs among the personnel with an average rank of 19.44 have respectively the most and least priorities.
