Epidemiology of Psychiatric Disorders in Students of Islamic Azad University of Kermanshah

The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of psychiatric disorders in students of Islamic Azad University of Kermanshah.

The research method was descriptive-survey. The statistical population consisted of all students who were studying in Islamic Azad University of Kermanshah in the academic year 2017-2018. The sample size consisted of 597 individuals who were selected by stratified random sampling. All subjects were assessed using the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory - 3 (MCMI-III). Data were analyzed using Chi-square (X2).

The results of this study showed that the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in the student population of Kermanshah Islamic Azad University was 31.16%, of which the prevalence was 36.20% in Women and 26.73% in men. Anxiety disorders, borderline personality, drug dependence and antisocial personality were 3.86, 2.85, 2.85, and 2.18% respectively, the most common psychiatric disorders in the student population. In general, 14.24% of people suffered from at least one psychiatric disorder; Also in the study of demographic variables, the highest prevalence was in the age group of 28 years and above with 17.32%, and single subjects with 10.44%. The relationship between the prevalence of psychiatric disorders and the gender of individuals showed a significant relationship between gender and borderline personality disorders, anxiety, Major depressive, post-traumatic stress and major depression (p <0.05); but between sex and infection There were no significant differences in other abnormalities (p <0.05).

The findings of this study indicate that at least 30% of the student population of the Islamic Azad University of Kermanshah need mental health services; Therefore, further research on etiology and its remediation needs to be provided in the field of family mental health through public and specialized education in outpatient clinics, university counseling centers, group media, and schools
