The Role of Dark Triad Personality traits and Parent-Child Relationship in Predicting Addiction Tendency in Female Adolescents in Tehran

Drug use in adolescents is growing as a social phenomenon that many factors are involved in its development. In this regard, the aim of this study was to determine the dark role of personality traits and parent-child relationship in predicting the tendency to addiction in female adolescents in Tehran. This study was a correlational study and the statistical population of the study included adolescents referred to DICs in Tehran. Sampling was available in this study and 60 adolescents (30 boys and 30 girls) were selected by this method. Data were collected using the Dark Personality Traits Questionnaire (Johnson & Webster, 2010), the parent-child relationship assessment (Fine et al., 1983) and the Addiction Readiness Questionnaire (Wade and Butcher, 1992). Data were analyzed using stepwise correlation and multivariate regression tests. The results showed that there is a relationship between the dark triad of personality (Machiavellianism, narcissism and anti-socialism) and the parent-child relationship with the tendency to addiction (P <0.05). The results also showed that anti-social, relationship with mother and relationship with father predict 0.30, 0.30 and 0.22 of addiction tendency in adolescents, respectively. According to the research findings, it can be said that anti-socialism, relationship with mother and relationship with father are able to explain the tendency to addiction in adolescents, so to prevent adolescent addiction, these variables can be considered.
