Is the Coronavirus Threatening the Mental Health of Iranians?
In order to assess the mental health status of Iranians in the days of the Corona pandemic threat, an online mental health questionnaire was developed using Google.
Given the quarantine days, people were invited to participate in the research through cyberspace apps. such as Telegram, WhatsApp and e-mail. 500 respondents included 361 females (72.2%), 139 (27.8%) males, 217 (43.4%) single, 267 (53.4%) married and 16 (3.2%) other.
The results revealed that the means of mental health, physical symptoms, anxiety symptoms, social functioning and depressive symptoms were 21.60, 5.42, 5.86, 7.02 and 3.28, respectively. Based on the cut-off point, 40% of the population is suspected to have mental disorder, which is less than that of the previous studies. The results further showed that mental health in women and men, married and single people, employed and unemployed individuals and people at different ages is significantly different.
It seems that not taking the coronavirus seriously and its coincidence with the days of Nowruz and visits and return visits has had a negative effect on all the components of mental health, except for social dysfunction.
