Comparison of Social Support and Social Competence in Gifted and Normal Students
The aim of this study was to compare social support and social competence in gifted and normal students in a causal-comparative study. The statistical population included all normal and gifted high school students in the city of Isfahan who were studying in the academic year 2019-2020. From this statistical population, 400 students (200 normal students and 200 gifted students) were selected by cluster sampling from normal and gifted schools in the first round of high school in Isfahan. Subjects responded to Felner\'s social competency and Zimet\'s social support scales. The obtained data were analyzed using independent t-test. Findings showed that the mean scores of social support and social competence in gifted students are significantly higher than normal students and there is a significant difference between the mean scores of social support and social competence in gifted and normal students (P <0.05). According to the obtained results, planning to increase social support and social competence in normal school students can lead to positive achievements such as increasing academic motivation, academic performance and achievement, and effective communication with peers. Accordingly, it is suggested that the necessary educational planning be done in order to increase social support and social competence in normal school students.
