According to poststructural feminism, the patriarchal, phallocentric society is based on binary oppositions. Poststructuralism subverts the patriarchal assertions of difference which impose an arbitrary closure on the differential field of meaning and reduce woman to that which is not man. Poststructuralist feminists, Irigaray and Cixous, call for defining the feminine in terms of “differance,” and believe the appreciation of differences open up new opportunities to women. Inspired by Derridean deconstructionist ideas, they came up with the theory of “écriture feminine” or “feminine writing” supposed to subvert the hierarchical power relations in language and literature. Reviewing this style of writing, the present article investigates if Assia Djebar’s novel, Fantasia: An Algerian Cavalcade, can be considered as an example of écriture feminine. Djebar develops a writing and language fitting to redefine the feminine which has always been marginalized and marked as “the other” in a phallogocentric system. Her style of writing puts this autobiographical novel in the category of écriture feminine.

Factors of expression and emotion are considered fixed criteria in aesthetics. Forming its approach within the American school and from the theories of Collingwood, the present article renders a study of the aesthetic effect of the factors of expressiveness, emotion, genius, and the deconstruction of the stereotypes in the following two short stories: “Center of Gravity” by the Russian writer, Victoria Tokareva, and “Zani az jens-e mes”/ “A Woman Made of Copper” by the Iranian writer, Behnaz Alipour. Regarding the same motifs in the two short stories, this study analyses the ontological views of women in two different cultures in order to show to what extent feminist views in aesthetics are in relation with the dominating cultural factors. These factors have different influences on the ideology of the characters. As a result, it seems that the Persian fiction centers on the social formation of the character while the Russian story revolves around the meaningfulness of social life.

A new chapter of literary movements in Germany has started due to the development of pop literature. Pop literature is the outcome of the rebellious feelings of a younger generation towards the prior social and political values. Christian Kracht is one of the contemporary writers in the German literature scene who was from early on considered as one of the main figures of German’s pop literature due to his unconventional style in describing the concerns of newer generations in his first novel Faserland. However, the main reason that makes Faserland one of the highlights of the contemporary German pop literature world is its psychological aspects demonstrated in the escapisms of its protagonist. This study tries not only to demonstrate pop literature’s vast potentials in manifesting deeper psychological concerns of a society, but also how it is possible to read Faserland’s protagonist as an example of an adolescent, living in mid-90s Germany, who isn’t able to cope with the history and society of the country he’s living in.

This essay shows how Isak Dinesen, as Danish Shahrazad, has used the art of storytelling, combining her lived experiences with European and African traditions of oral storytelling in her works in different periods. As an enthusiastic child, Dinesen has listened to the tales told by her grandfather. As the second, Dinesen has travelled to Africa. As the third, she has mixed the Eastern and Western tales to form her artistic identity and her world literature. This article justifies the connection between the three periods of Dinesen's life and his works to show how she has gained her place as a storyteller. As for the theoretical framework, a mention is made of W. Benjamin's classic article and its relation to the characteristics of Dinesen's storytelling. To explain these features, “The Blank Page” is examined briefly. One finding is that Dinesen has used the European and African storytelling traditions as a catalyst. In short, if Shahrzad is considered a storyteller in presence, Dinesen is considered a traveling storyteller.

This article focuses on the concept of rhizome and its relation with ‘bio-power’ in Kamila Shamsi’s Home Fire (2017) through the perspective of cultural studies. Deploying Faucauldian concept of bio-power and focusing on the techniques of adaptation, the article tries to discuss how the post-colonial West has imposed the biopolitical discourse through ‘norms’ and concepts like social purity, ‘collective identity,’ and ‘ethnic ontology.’ To this end, notions of ‘difference,’ ‘deterritorialization,’ and ‘reterritorialization’ have been explored. It is argued that with domination of ‘exceptional situation,’especially after September 11th, the silence imposed upon the minority groups, and their banishment into ‘bare life,’ terror and religious fundamentalism seem inevitable outcomes. Shamsi’s work is an attempt to challenge western bio-politics at a time when heterogeneity is the rule of the day; rhizome and polyphony the inalienable features of life, and ‘becoming’ rather than ‘being’ the very essence of man. At this time, in Shamsi’s view, the source of one’s identity should be located in ‘difference,’ and hierarchical discourses should succumb to horizontal equality.

The view on "death" varies greatly depending on various cultural and intellectual factors. Although death is generally considered a "negative" and "unpleasant" issue, it sometimes finds a "desirable" meaning and creates a kind of "death thinking" and "death wish" in people. This death thinking has manifestations in the literature, and this research aims to study the ideas of poets who perceive the mortality issue with this view. In the present study, we have first tried to examine the death-wish poems of three poets; the Iranian: Sohrab Sepehri, the Arab: Ghada al-Saman), and the English (John Keats) separately, and then we have tried to analyze the causes of this manner of thinking based on a psychoanalytic theory by Freud called 'death drive'; According to this theory, the activity of the death drive associates with the "psychological development"; That is, the more people develop psychologically, the more active the death drive is in them. During this research, we find many of the poems' intellectual components compatible with the characteristics of this theory.

Two Kurdish poets, Hajar and Suwara, have recomposed the Khanlari,s poem of Eagle to Kurdish language. In spite of the fact that the plot and theme of the story haven’t been changed in this recomposed process, there are differences between the narration of Khanlari and two Kurdish poets, because in narration of this story, the Kurdish poets have changes some elements which have made their narration different to addressee. The most important changes occurred in their narrations are: “elimination of some free motifs”, “summarization of depending motifs”, “to add the atmosphere to the beginning of story”, “difference in characterization”, “to state directly the result of story” and etc.In this paper, we compare the narrations of two Kurdish poets with the ones of Khanlari, in order to be shown the similarities and differences of them. The results relate that the Kurdish poets changed the narration in order to make innovation in narrative.

According to some critics, the modernist novels are claimed to just present modern characters and postmodernist novels solely show the postmodern ones. However, the protagonists of Don DeLillo’s The Body Artist (2001) are simultaneously both modern and postmodern. The purpose of this research is to study the protagonists of this novel to go beyond the predestined conventions. As Metamodernism is based on the oscillation between modernism and postmodernism, the study applies Vermeulen and Akker's theories on Metamodernism (2010) to survey juxtapositions between modernism and postmodernism in this novel. Besides, Deleuze and Guattari’s Arborescent and Rhizomatic Subjectivities (1987) are applied to deeply analyze the characters. The findings of this study show that the protagonists of DeLillo’s novel are in the process of losing self and becoming the other. They swing like a pendulum between the characteristics of individuality and multiplicity, being modern and becoming postmodern, being oneself and becoming other, staying arborescent and turning into Rhizome. Therefore, the main characters of The Body Artist, Lauren and Mr. Tuttle, are Metamodern.

The method of this research is descriptive-analytical study with narrative approach. The research findings show that The text of Waiting for Godot is adaptable to Barth's theory of coding and follows the narrative analysis paradigm of Barthes: It is important that in some cases Barth's critical patterns of over-saturation or immobility be cast It challenges the text in an aesthetic context, which leads to a better understanding of the work on the creation of two half-crazy and half-philosophical characters. In the dialogues of this text, Beckett has been able to convey his religious and philosophical implications by making connections between the characters of the play with a great deal of contrast and using the style of the instrument. As a result of industrial progress in the transportation, European travel to the Orient was facilitated in the 19th century. Jane Dieulafoy, a French traveler who dressed as a man according to the patriarchal society of her time, crossed the limits of pre-existing social representations by her travel to Iran. Thus, the sociopoetics, which is concerned with the study of social representations as dynamic elements of literary creation, is presented for the first time in Iran and, due to its interdisciplinary character, is treated in the field of comparative literature. Taking advantage of this field of analysis, Dieulafoy's social representations through the roads of Iran and their influence on the writing of his travelogue entitled “Persia, Chaldea and Susiana” are studied. Indeed, one could consider the roads as the social space that play an essential role in travel literature. The results of this research show that the roads, according to Dieulafoy, are seen as places of antithesis, between hope and despair, light and darkness which detache her life from immobility.

The Gothic school contains stories with a disturbing, dark and scary atmosphere. Marishley in the United Kingdom and Ahmad Saadawi in Iraq are among the most prominent writers of this school, whose works have attracted the attention of many translators, critics and writers. In this study, we intend to use the content analysis method to make a comparative critique of the novel Frankenstein's Monster by Marishley and Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmad Saadawi from the perspective of the Gothic school. Findings show that the Gothic principle, which is based on fear and panic, has intensified with the creation of a Gothic creature in these two effects. The theme of both effects is violence and death. In these works, the two have presented a narrative that, despite its similarity in style and content, differs in terms of narrative structure; Sdawi's narration is a fragmented narrative. Shelley used Gothic and consequently violence to express moral themes, but Saadawi used this style to express political and social themes and current issues in Iraq.

Different and sometimes contradictory definitions of "parody" indicate that there is no consistent definition of this concept. A parody in Persian literature - containing valuable treasures to study this concept - has been translated to "Naghise". This word is incorrectly used for most of the concepts close to it. In order to understand this concept, finally, in a correct way in Persian literature, and to better recognize its nature, a diachronic survey study of parody in western theories and literary criticisms is necessary. In this article we will explain how theorizing about it culminates in Bakhtin and the Russian formalists in the twentieth century. We will describe the first approach in that parody was specially defined and distinguished from its adjacent concepts, as well as, the most important and recent theories. Parody, this acclaimed and sometimes perverted concept, has encouraged analysts and theorists to never stop redefining and researching about it.

South Africa, known as "Rainbow Nation" because of its different ethnicities, has faced several political, cultural and national challenges in the past three decades since the onset of the post-apartheid era. This situation is pervasive in contemporary South African literature and has become a controversial topic for most of the writers of this period, especially Andre Brink. In The Imaginings of Sand, the identity crisis of Afrikaner women is portrayed and a complex network of narratives of nationality, identity and femininity has formed. Being founded upon narrative therapy, the present study explores how the reviewing of memories is entangled with the mental defects of characters in the Imaginings of Sand. Narrative therapy, particularly from the viewpoint of Michael White (1948-2008), is an interdisciplinary method in medical humanities that deals with the pathology of mind and the role of narrative in the revival of memory and identity. Accordingly, the contradictions and identity crises in the broken narratives of three generations of women narrators in this novel have been discussed and analyzed.

A comparative study of relations among nations and its evaluation based on the Other’s attitudes generates a deep insight; thence, travelogue is considered a profitable means in this regard. Within the path of knowing the ‘other’, the travel writer paces to know him/herself. Put another way, the writing would culminate in his/her own understanding along with the ‘other’. In this vein, the similarities and cultural differences which are formed in accordance with the travel writer’s prior thought lines or prejudices, encompass a vast information regarding the travel writer’s identity. Besides, the French school of Imagology especially Daniel-Henri Pageaux’s researches, is a valuable resource for analyzing such travelogues. For this purpose, Pietro Della valle’s Travels to Persia has been taken into account to examine his constructed identity as an Italian/Eueopean ‘other’. Out of his very minute descriptions he generates regarding political, social, and cultural conditions of Iran in comparison with his own country or The Ottoman Empire, his own identity is constructed.

This study aims to introduce a noble cognitive schema of cohesion using some narratives in Azerbaijani Turkish, Persian, and English. The framework used in the current study is Dooley and Levinsohn’s (2001) model of functional-cognitive approach. The corpus of the study contains 15 stories. The results of the study show that narration can be imagined as a polygon. The polygon functions like a cognitive schema. According to the so-called cognitive schema, all sides of the polygon are fixed and can be used in any bedtime story. Of course, the narrator can increase or decrease the number of sentences of this kind but the point is that the more the narrator decreases or increases the sentences the less the coherence of the narration will be. This cognitive schema confirms why children’s bedtime stories are the easiest narratives while classic or detective narratives are among the most difficult ones to read and follow.

Spiritual-journey has a special position among common themes in the world’s literature. The paper explores the notion of journey in Persian and English literature. The English corpus includes The Pilgrim’s Progress as a celebrated allegorical literary work written by the eminent author John Bunyan (1678). Christian is the main character of the novel. The Persian corpus includes Samad Behrangi’s (1347) The Little Black Fish which concerns the challenges encountered by the main character in passing through different stages of the mystical journey. The works are compared based on the framework presented for the stages of spiritual-journey in Attar’s Mantegh-al-tair (i.e., language of the birds). It embraces the following seven phases: quest, love, wisdom, independence, monotheism, amazement, indigence and death. The findings have revealed that the stages of spiritual-journey are outstandingly comparable. The main rationale behind such an amazing similarity has been realized to be the fact that both works belong to the area called mystical-literature and cover the common theme of ‘spiritual-journey’.
